Tablet Revival

The French company Archos is an age-old name in the portable media players (PMPs) industry. Long before the iPod Touch came along, Archos was the brand movie-lovers turned to when they needed a device to watch their favorite flicks effortlessly on the go.

Recently however, the company has been taking a different direction in terms of their product lines, dubbing their new sixth generation products as IMTs (Internet Media Tablets). Recently, we took a look at the Archos 5 and found it to be a decent PMP. Today, we are turning our attention to its bigger sibling - the Archos 9 PCtablet.

The Archos 9 PCtablet represents the French company's attempt at garnering a share of the lucrative mobile computing market.

Most crucially, the Archos 9 PCtablet sports a 8.9-inch screen and runs on Windows 7 Starter Edition, instead of the Android operating system like the Archos 5. This means that it's a real full fledged tablet PC - just like its name suggests.

Powering the unit is a 1.1GHz Atom Z 510 processor, which is complemented by 1GB of DDR2 RAM and a 60GB 1.8-inch hard disk. WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity comes as standard, and the Archos 9 PCtablet even sports a 1.3 megapixel camera for web chat needs. All things considered, the Archos 9 PCtablet does sound decent, if only on paper. More details in the following pages, but here are its complete specifications.
